The NanoMOF project was based on metal-organic structures, the size of a billionth of a metre, which can be applied both in the industrial and biomedical fields.
Above all the MOF possess an increased surface area, still in the order of nano-measures, upon which a large number of catalyst molecules can be placed to facilitate chemical reactions. Also, their uniform porosity, as large as that of an atom, allows efficient absorption of the molecules within them.
The project had the ambitious goal of integrating these nano-compounds in high added-value industrial products.
SIAD handled the application of the research, in collaboration with the University of Granada, the Ben-Gurion University, the Fraunhofer Institute, the Technical University of Dresden and Johnson Matthey, a chemical company that synthesizes the MOF on a large scale.
